Writer/Director Jon Dabach met with Develop Your Movie founder, Rob Margolies, after Rob applied to his job advertisement looking for a producer. The first thing Rob did for Jon was make him a business plan which included his budget of $60,000. The script had 10 speaking roles and just one location. After making the business plan, Rob found an investor who agreed to invest 50% of the financing. For the remaining 50%, Rob and Jon launched a Kickstarter campaign. Through the campaign, another investor was secured which made up for more than the amount needed to complete the film. Next, Rob was able to attach an all-star cast and when the film was done, Gravitas Ventures picked up the film for distribution.

After getting his debut feature of the ground, Jon Dabach returned to Develop Your Movie, this time with a sci-fi / horror anthology feature film. Rob Margolies immediately made a business plan and had no problem finding $100,000 to produce the film. Rob immediately cast the late horror icon Tony Todd in a heart stopping role. Today the hit film can be streamed on Amazon, Tubi, and many other platforms. It also holds an impressive 100% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Writer/Actor TIM REALBUTO was introduced to Rob through a publicist in the industry. Tim had saved up $60,000 in hopes of attaching Develop Your Movie founder, Rob Margolies, to direct and produce his screenplay, which was based on his Off Broadway play with the same title. Rob was immediately attracted to the writing and characters in the tragic story. Tim was a huge fan of the hit ABC show “Modern Family” and his first choice to star opposite him was Nolan Gould. It just so happens that Rob previously worked with Nolan, and Rob was able to convince him to take the lead role opposite Tim. The film turned out so well that Rob was offered partial financing to make another feature film with Tim called “Bobcat Moretti”. “YES” is currently on Amazon Prime and streaming on Xfinity, among many other platforms.

Writer/Actor Jonathan Geffner discovered Develop Your Movie on social media. Jonathan is mainly known for being a ventriloquist, but he has also acted in his own short film. Rob Margolies was instantly attracted to the extremely unique premise of Jonathan’s script as well as Jonathan’s confidence to self-fund the project for a little over $100,000. Actress Sean Young (Blade Runner) signed on for the lead role opposite Jonathan. The film features real life ventriloquism and a family friendly murder mystery plot. It is to be distributed in 2025.

BOBCAT MORETTI

For his follow up feature film, writer/actor Tim Realbuto wanted to make an extremely ambitious film in which his character would have to lose over 100 pounds. “Bobcat Moretti” was filmed in two parts over the course of one year. Tim did in fact lose the weight within 10 months after filming the first 50% of the film. The budget reached as high as $300,000. Many investors were eager to be involved with the film, especially after Tim committed to losing the weight. The film turned out to be a solid hit and was the #1 streamed movie on cable via Starz for over 3 weeks in January of 2024. The film can also be rented on Amazon Prime and many other platforms.
